For a decade we refused to use the “M” word until we took a much deeper dive into it’s true history. This video will blow your mind with a 500-year history of …
The word is only 100 years old when Harry anslinger coined it to reference Mexicans and latin America and drive racism and social injustices to protect white power in his mind. Not to ment he also was a owner of the biggest newspaper company in the USA at the time and hemp threatened to put his wood based paper products out of business.
Just because you want to "take back the word" doesn't mean it isn't a racist word. It doesn't matter if you work with Mexicans, know Mexicans, got the ok from Mexicans, or if you are Mexican. Marijuana is not ok.
This is interesting but it doesn’t change the fact the word still has a history that ties it to racism. It’s not hard to use other terms that don’t have a hurtful history, look at how Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism have moved away from the use of the swastika (sauwastika) because the change from a symbol of divinity and spirituality to one of hate and evil once it was adopted by the Nazis. As stated above it’s important to understand the history but that doesn’t undo the damage that has been done or make it suddenly ok to use because of a lesser know history.
celebrating culture? it is slang, to hide from religious persecution and was used by wealthy mexicans in a classist way against lower status individuals in mexico prior to 1930s.. their terms happy or not, are slang. We don't call it pot, or reefer, ganja etc in any serious scientific or botanical context.. those all have a history of trying to have terms to avoid being caught as well.. Cannabis is the botanical term, and to think we can't seperate them without using the term marijuana is patronizing. This video only gave more reason to not use the M word in my opinion. not only does it have a racist history in the us which lead to locking up disproportionate amounts of people of color, who many still are serving time for non violent cannabis crimes, thanks to the rhetoric of prohibition era, but also its got ties to religious persecution and classist history as well. we can't erase the word from our history, but we can respectfully move forward with better terminology.. medical marijuana programs can easily be renamed, most territories could use an update on their current cannabis policy, and changing the name is a good time to have a fresh start, like californias cannabis and hemp initiative 2020 cchi2020 which repeals horrid regulation and offers sensible regulations (taxes similar to alchohol / tobacco / no higher!) it is insane how over taxed and over regulated prop 64 is in california, and its text is littered with the term marijuana. prop 64 SUCKS, further evidence the term marijuana is bad 😂
How fascinating when you listen to Bill Donahue on the hidden meanings of the Bible. Mother Mary is Virgo, Madonna, Pia Mater or gentle mother, the membrane enveloping the brain and spinal cord. Basically, Catholics were taking the Bible literally and forcing these indigenous people away from God and into religion. "He gave grass to the cattle and herb for the service of man." Psalm 104:14 "Your eye (not eyes, the Pineal Gland – PinuEl) is the light of the body, therefore, if your eye be single than your body will be full of light…" Luke 11:34
My only problem is in knowing that the 'M' word is slang, and is not the proper word for cannabis to begin with. Marijuana is and always has been a colloquial slang term first coined by Mexican migrant workers for the wild tobacco plants they dried and smoked during the Great Depression because they could not afford commercial tobacco products. Not Cannabis, but tobacco. The word was stolen by Hearst because of the way it sounded, and the he knew he had to direct the lobbying of the government with a word other than Cannabis. Cannabis was being seen as a good thing at that time, especially by the AMA. How about calling the plant what it is. .. Cannabis (no need to add SativaL). Hemp can be called Cannabis Hemp to signify it's distinction. I work with Hemp, after spending a decade growing Cannabis indoors and outdoors for high THC content. Now, though, I work with hemp and that DOES NOT MEAN I grow for textiles. I grow for extraction, and flower. Will it get you high, yes…. in certain circumstances. It is legal in my state if it is under or equal to .3% D9THC. This differs from state to state. Some use a conversion from THC-A , multiplying your THCA by .087 to get the conversion rate. That number is added to your D9THC and the resulting number is used for legal measures in that state. In my state, I can grow breeds that will pass the D9THC test ( being under .3%), but I can extract it without converting the THCA to D9THC and get a product concentrate that when ingested will get you lifted. I do product development frequently and I feel that this conversation is off, because you guys immediately work on the premise that 'hemp isn't psychoactive' . That's a bit dishonest to the facts. Those compounds are in the hemp. Enough of those compounds will get you high. Marijuana word isn't 'bad' , it's just the wrong word. Marijuana is wild tobacco slang term stolen from some assholes that wanted to lobby against Cannabis and chose that one. That's it. BTW, Chef Brandon.. I love you bro.
I love this video! It’s so important to preserve the traditional and indigenous history of cannabis! The early uses of cannabis in Latin cultures is very similar to the uses of cannabis in Black/ African culture and history. Enslaved Africans cultivated hemp and used marijuana on plantations. I hope to have more discussions about this important history and celebrate it as cannabis is deeply tied to our cultures as Black & Latin people. Can’t wait to share this with others. Thanks for having this conversation.

Who is she?
I think the word shouldn't be forgotten, especially after knowing that has deeper and meaningful word than previously expected.
